I would like to run for this position because I have been involved in the society for around a year now and feel that the time is right for me to get more actively engaged in the EA community. I have discussed with current committee members what the role would entail and we have agreed that, as welfare officer, I would be the port of call for anyone who had any safeguarding problems or queries regarding the society and the EA space in general, and would liaise with the rest of the team to fix the issue, to make sure the society is a safe place. We are planning on getting an anonymous complaints system in place, in which I would receive submissions from people who were worried/felt mistreated, and then meet with them if they wanted to discuss this further so that the society could take action to fix things.
Hey! I’m Christine, a BSc Biomedical Sciences student and I would love to be part of your committee for the Effective Altruism Society. A society like this has the power to impact our ways of thinking, learning, and essentially ‘doing good’ in the world. And it can start now. Therefore, I would like to play an active role in spreading the message of this society and its work. My years of experience fundraising and running assemblies for CAFOD, Missio, and a range of mental health charities have equipped me with the skills and mindset needed to contribute to the running of Effective Altruism Society. Along with previously achieving a qualification in Public Health to understand mental health in young people and ultimately restructure the provision of some health services in GPs. I would very much like to support the wellbeing and engagement of those with an interest in Effective Altruism by having fundraising events, talks, and a clear social media presence. :)
