My aspirations for the future Education Officer can be defined in one word, cooperation.
I will extend stronger arms from the university to its students who are in need by:
- Creating more easily accessible financial aid for students from low income backgrounds, alongside stronger networks of wellbeing throughout their time at UCL.
- Setting up systems to form a stronger relationship between UCL and our LGBTQ+ student body.
- Assessing our extenuating circumstances system, in its effectiveness to respond and provide support to students with poor mental health.
As a student on the low income bursary scheme I understand the complex systems behind reaching financial aid at UCL. Widening participation schemes, are bringing more students into the university, but the supporting structures to uphold these students during their studies are ineffective. This understanding is a huge motivation for me to make a change for future students.
I also have extensive experience in Live Music Committee, Transition Mentoring and being a Library Representative. Such experience will naturally help me in facilitating a better environment for learning within UCL.
Education, especially at university, is so much more than exams or assessments. It is also about the environment in which you spend your studies. A vote for me, is a vote for somebody that understands this.
I am hard working, dependable and thorough at any job I undertake. I pride myself on being approachable and a competent team player.
Most of all, however, I would love the opportunity to make the changes needed in our education systems at UCL next year.
So, please, vote for me for your 2023-2024 Education Officer.
As an international student myself, who has received education in India, Oxford, London and as an incoming student at Harvard Graduate School of Education, I have learnt how to manoeuvre myself in an international environment, whilst keeping my authentic self, true.
The struggles, navigation, guidance, all of it are something that I myself have encountered and it would be nothing less than an honour to be a representative and allow and help students to leverage the full potential an international eco-system can provide.
As an Education Officer I aim to represent the views and interests of international students, regardless of their nationality, in a global university such as UCL.
In a vibrant city such as London, that provides vast opportunities whilst allowing students to truly meet and learn from people from various parts of the world, voicing their opinions and catering to what is most needed in the student meetings will be my main agenda.
Placing a focus on cultural events also happens to be my focal point, and I believe it is crucial in bringing people together.
With a keen interest in education, alongside having taken the role of leadership during different stages of my life, starting from taking up the deputy head girl role in high school to being the academic representative in my undergraduate school. Interacting with students, and helping them get access to information and things has been something I'm passionate about.
As someone who has been currently working with students in India, communicating with my fellow-mates or any new student has fascinated me. Understanding their side of the story and seeing them achieve their aspirations.
As an education officer, I want to ensure excellent educational experiences for students with engaging and happy environments.
- I want to ensure wider study spaces for students with increased accessibility to discussion rooms, quiet study spaces, and leisure rooms.
- I want to run a students' forum to hear about students' educational experiences and prompt responses to concerns.
- As a British Asian student, I would like to make UCL a more inclusive and accessible place for all students and especially international students, by working on a reduction in the overseas program fee.
I am currently doing PGCE and also am a graduate of UCL. As a university student, I can relate to students' experiences in transition, assessment, teaching, and learning, which will allow me to make prompt decisions in responses and create change.
As a trainee teacher, I am equipped with curriculum, assessments, and pedagogy which allows me to represent students' academic interests at UCL and beyond and lead union work effectively.
I am a GMC union chair and experienced in overseeing organizational responsibilities and policy implementation.
I am passionate about achieving high-quality educational standards for students, by reducing educational inequalities, creating inclusive educational experiences, smooth transitioning with minimum disruption, and more accessibility to mentorship for student support is available.
If you would vote for me, I would like to ensure that your educational experience provides you with the best opportunities at the university and beyond.
Ensure minimised impact on student education during strike actions and lobby for financial and academic compensation.
Work alongside stakeholders in revising the structure of the academic teaching year; focusing on concerns about over assessment and high-stake end of year exam period.
Introduce free short courses for students/grads and collaborate with top-tier institutes and organisations worldwide for exchange programmes, fostering student growth in dynamic environments to boost employability.
Advocate for decolonising the curriculum whilst closing the BME attainment gap of 13%.
Working at multiple scales of policy making from local governance at Camden Council to UNDP Programs has made me appreciative of the imperative consideration of the needs of the policy stakeholders. Securing 60+ IVY and Oxbridge admissions through my mentorship establishment has allowed me to analyse various educational systems which will help me map out efficacious frameworks with UCL. Campaigning for increased SU fundings and scholarships for students as SU’ Trustee has given me a better understanding of the intricacies of the system allowing me to effectively represent students interests.
Noticing the gap in transitional support into tertiary education, I established a mentorship programme which served as an advent for my growing passion for education and goal of enacting sustainable improvisations into our already well-established structure. Serving the SU in different capacities has strengthened my trust in the values and beliefs of the union, alongside equipping me with the essential prerequisites to lead as education officer. I look forward to strongly advocating for student voices and implementing change at UCL
Hi! My name is Mai and I am a 3rd year Anthropology student. If elected as your next Education Officer, I will work to:
- Rethink the assessment system - 100% essays or 5 exams in a week are not representative of our skills and learning
- Ensure proper feedback is given for all assessments
- Adapt the content of modules to make sure it adequately reflects the amount of credits the module is worth
- Decolonize the curriculum and ensure that diverse viewpoints are represented in our studies
- Think welfare into education - e.g. by maintaining strong EC policies and readily available support
While at UCL, I have worked as Transition Mentor, Senior Mentor, and been an Academic Course Rep every year - in short, I listened to my peers and worked towards our shared goals, something I will keep doing as your Education Officer. As a rep, I have facilitated student/staff communication and understand how teaching policies affect us and that changes need to be made to the current way things are run. As president of the Anthropology Society, I have gained the necessary leadership experience which allows me to represent you and your needs, and will act to make change happen!
You should vote for me if you also want an equal, representative and fair education at UCL. In me you will get a dedicated and enthusiastic sabbatical officer working towards improving your education and overall study experience. My hair is already representing UCL - let the rest of me represent you as your Educational Officer!
If you have any questions about me and/or my manifesto, you can reach me at [email protected], or on insta @jegersoed (which means ‘I am nice’ in Danish, and if insta says it, it must be true). Look forward to hearing from you and hope for your vote!

Because I am useful.
My focus will be on:
- Reinforcing student’s financial support throughout by reviewing the amount of funding available in line with the cost-of-living crisis.
- Ensuring that there are appropriate assessment procedures in place during staff strikes, to not negatively impact students.
- Creating an efficient connection between the Bloomsbury campus and the East campus.
- Working to close the feedback loop, by providing students with next steps to improve
- Extend the use of Shape UCL to all departments, as to encourage effective and anonymous feedback, and hold people accountable.
I am a postgraduate student in Learning Environments for the school of Sustainable Construction in Here East. I have worked as a rep during my undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, gaining a lot of experience on how to effectively approach people to bring change. I act as a bridge between students and staff because I am passionate about ensuring everyone's equal access to education. As a European student, the needs of both UK and international students are close to me, and I understand the importance of having a rep that has dealt with issues such as financial hardship and isolation.
Through my work as an academic rep at UCL during this academic year, I believe that I am ready to tackle bigger issues and truly help bring change. As a student based in Here East, I want to bring the needs of the students on my campus to the attention of the relevant people, as we sometimes feel isolated from the main campus. My financial struggle and the help I have received have inspired me to look for new solutions which I am hoping to implement if I get elected.
I hope you vote for me to represent you and your educational concerns during the next academic year!
Hello! I'm Giovanni, a final year Politics and International Relations student, and I hope you'll trust me to be your next Education Officer. If elected I would aim to:
- Ensure that students' views are taken into account in any potential discussion on redesigning essay-based assessments due to concerns around AI use;
- Find a solution to the increasing lack of available study spaces on campus;
- Push for feedback for all assessments to go into an adequate level of detail through a set of standardised criteria;
- Keep up with the evolution of students' demands throughout the year.
During my time at UCL, I've had the pleasure to be an Academic Representative twice, the first time only as Course Rep for my cohort and the second time taking up the role of Lead Department Rep for the Department of Political Science.
I know how to voice the students' demands, and how to make sure they get listened to. I've always worked with passion and excitement to be the person that my friends and colleagues trusted to bring forward their concerns. Above all, I've learned how to actually listen to what the students have to say, which is a quality I'm keen on bringing to this role.
I believe my experiences as Academic Rep have been the best possible training for performing well as Education Officer.
Thank you for reading my manifesto, and please don't hesitate to get in touch with me should you have any questions or comments on any of my ideas!

- Lead the discussion on how AI can benefit students and how it should be regulated, as students are already using these tools
- Reinforce feedback regulations, specifically in regards to meeting deadlines and the quality of feedback
- Improve postgraduate communities by encouraging events between staff and students
- Create safe and comfortable learning spaces for BAME students in order to continue closing the BAME awarding gap
- Increase the visibility of academic representatives, leading to more contact between reps and students and better representation of the education experience
I am the youngest person in the country to earn level 2 counselling certification {level 3 in Europe}, meaning my listening and interpersonal skills are at a professional level.
I’ve put this into practice through designing and hosting workshops for university students under the Rethink Mental Illness charity. Workshops surrounded coping with different stressors, giving me insight into problems that students face which one otherwise would not have heard of.
Furthermore, I’ve chosen to study education in the final year of my psychology BSc, giving me a holistic look at our education system.
I'm committed to understanding students' current views and have voluntarily participated in multiple policy zones in order to do so. I understand the SU's system and know how to enact change. I believe that we should strive for an education that accounts for individuality, as it is vital in helping someone become their most authentic self. I recognise the need for education to cater to people of different ethnicities, orientations and backgrounds, and I don’t want to speak on others’ behalf, but hear directly from them and model change after their experiences.
