Your Role

You will be a full time Sabbatical Officer of the Students’ Union working full time to provide leadership to the Students’ Union’s services; you will lead on representing students’ academic interests to UCL and beyond and lead the Union’s work in influencing UCL to achieve fair, accessible, and high-quality education at UCL.

General Responsibilities

  1. Shall be collectively responsible for the strategic leadership of the Union.
  2. Shall work full-time and represent the interests of students to UCL, including participating in UCL committees and regular meetings with senior UCL staff.
  3. Shall meet regularly with the Chief Executive and Senior Management Team to discuss the strategy, operation, and management of the Union.
  4. Shall serve as a Trustee and Director of the Students' Union.
  5. Shall ensure the Union is ethical, environmental, and sustainable.
  6. Shall share the responsibilities of communicating with the Membership, keeping all Members informed about the work of the Sabbatical Officer Team and the Union’s services for Members.
  7. Shall be accountable to students and keep all students informed of their work on behalf of the Union’s members.
  8. Shall fulfil their role as outlined in the role descriptions and to support, where appropriate, other student officers and representatives in the fulfilment of their role.
  9. Shall act as the spokesperson for the Union.
  10. Act as ambassadors for the UCL student community.
  11. Shall lead on the implementation of Union policies relevant to their roles.

Individual Responsibilities

  1. Represent students to UCL on the following issues:
    1. Libraries and Study Spaces.
    2. Teaching, Learning and Assessment.
    3. Student Funding and Fees.
    4. Academic Policy and Regulations
    5. Trustee of UCL and member of UCL's governing Council.
  2. Represent students within the Union and contribute to Union strategy in the following areas:
    1. Chair of Education Zone.
    2. Academic Representation and the Academic Reps Network.
    3. Lead our delegation to NUS National Conference.
  3. Shall regularly meet with and support the work of the faculty representatives.

All UCL students.

Time Required For Role

This is a full-time role over a 12.5 month period, from 1 July 2024 – 15 July 2025.

36.5 hours per week plus a range of additional events.

The role involves some evening and weekend work, and is based in London, UK.

Salary: £30,138 including 27 days holiday. Please note this will rise in line with the cost of living increase from summer 2024.
