I would love to continue my work as Vice-President of the Drama Society next year. We have had a brilliant year, with two successful Blooms shows, two successful festivals, a few small shows, and currently a Writing Festival (with plenty more to come!). The drama scene has been booming! There is still more we can do, and I would love to work with the next committee to achieve some of these goals.
I would love to collaborate further with internal societies and build those important relationships. Anyone who has had the pleasure of working with Stage-Crew know how integral they are to every production. I would want to ensure our society continues to maintain a close bond, while also building relationships with other Arts Societies, through socials and events, where members can network.
I aim to create a more reliable rehearsal and workshop structure, where we block-book rooms on campus allowing us to guarantee rehearsal spaces week to week, while also ensuring we have space for workshops to be held.
Given the fact there are so many universities in London, I want to continue to build a stronger relationship among them. We have begun attending each others shows, but I feel we can push this further by creating a Drama Festival, where each university is able to perform a piece.
We have achieved some great things this year, and it is awesome seeing you all do what you do best! It would be a pleasure to continue creating exciting opportunities as your Vice President.
Hi! I'm Aurelia (any pronouns) and I would love to be your Vice President this year.
I'm currently on a year abroad at the University of Washington, where I'm majoring in Drama (yay) so I can't way to bring back the knowledge and experience I gained this year!
I have loads of ideas for the development of the Society, but my main priorities will be:
- improving Drama Soc's outreach and accessibility through social media presence, newsletters, higher participation in union events...
- creating a google drive with information about every role in production and committee, to ensure members all have equal opportunity when bidding a show or applying for a position
- lobbying for a bigger costume cupboard, and for a better check-in system for costumes and keys
- lobbying for more performance spaces, especially now that UCL East is opening
- having regular workshops with guest speakers, not only centred around acting (think design, costume, drag, production team, stage combat, industry workshops...)
- organizing frequent socials, collaborating with societies such as MT, Stage Crew...
- having a supportive, productive, and approachable committee in 2023/2024
I believe I am a good fit for the role of Vice President, because I care deeply about Drama Society and am ready to put in the time I know is necessary to fulfill my role. I have produced, directed, and acted in countless UCL Drama productions, and my role as Treasurer in 2021/2022 taught me how to run a society.
I’m currently a 2nd year Psychology student but have always enjoyed taking part in drama in whatever form it takes - whether that be in acting or behind the scenes.
Since joining UCL, I've tried to involve myself with the drama society as much as I can and have made so many of my closet friends through doing so. The society and drama in general mean a lot to me. Alongside taking part in Drama Soc over the past 2 years, I started running an unofficial play reading group which meets weekly. It would be my hope to integrate this more into Drama Society, increasing accessible opportunities for people of all experience levels and/or interests in drama. I feel this is important to provide a relaxed environment where people can explore texts and meet others without the added anxiety and/or commitments of auditions and performances. This, paired with planned existing workshops, could increase some confidence when approaching texts and auditioning for plays (both small shows and Blooms shows). Alongside this, I'd like to try increase the visibility of Drama Soc and our different opportunities and showcases whilst pitching for the return of past events, such as a freshers play. Perhaps this could take the form of integrating more with other societies e.g., Musical Theatre Society and Shakespeare Company. Also merch!
I’d hope to work with the president and the rest of committee to create an environment where society members feel welcome to make suggestions and realise their ideas.
