Ingrid W Chan

Hi, I'm Ingrid Chan, a first year International Social and Political Studies student.

I am running for the Head of Events position due to my past experience and my desire to introduce new events. As someone who has organised large-scale school events, I am well equipped to handle all aspects of event planning – from contacting speakers to managing the event. Despite any challenges, I keep a cool head and I am interested in engaging society members in all steps of the process and make the sign-up process smoother, as well as considering suggestions for future events through surveys and feedback.

This year's speaker events and panels have been amazing – I would like to continue down the line of introducing human rights issues and climate diplomacy, as climate change is a very important factor that countries need to address. My experiences in the EISPS journal and ESG journal broadened my perspective on diplomacy; this would aid me in planning events and reaching out to different speakers and organisations that cover different aspects of diplomacy. A few suggestions for events may be panels on aid diplomacy in crises such as the Türkiye-Syrian earthquake, bringing in wider discussions of relationships between nations (following the template of the China/UK discussion), embassy visits to more Asian countries, and more frequent pub socials/"pizza and politics" events to get to know each other better and have fun.

Vote for me to have a wonderful and engaging Dip Soc experience!

Jack Elvey

As an enthusiastic member of the UCL Diplomacy Society, I am thrilled to apply for the Head of Events position. With my experience as Director of Sponsorship in the German Society, I am well-equipped in building relationships with key stakeholders, negotiating and securing funding for successful events. Additionally, my role as Treasurer in the EEL Society has given me the ability to manage finances, oversee budgets, and understand the key logistics of a UCL society.

As a current news writer for the UCL Diplomacy Society, I have a deep passion for the society and its goals. My studies in French and German have given me a valuable understanding of different cultures and languages, and useful in organising events with international organisations. Pursuing a Masters in International Relations also provides me with a high-level perspective on the importance of global cooperation.

Moreover, I am excited about the opportunity to utilise my network and potential contacts to benefit the UCL Diplomacy Society and build new partnerships. I am eager to contribute to the society and create meaningful events that facilitate discussions, promote cultural exchange, and foster a sense of community within the society and the wider-community.
