Princess Bisnar

Hi, I’m Princess and I’m running for events officer because the past months as welfare officer for the society helped me gain experience in planning and brainstorming events. This would be a fun role to showcase what the society can really offer to members, even those not within the RMP, and I would like to plan events that suit their interests.

As welfare officer, I was able to work alongside the events officer and executives to implement events such as discussion circles and academic panels. I gained better communication skills through emailing academic speakers for talks and businesses for socials and within the team to come up with fun ideas that could engage our members. I was also able to work with budgets and fill out activity forms, which required me to pay attention to detail and stay organised. Being adaptable was also crucial, such as changing the format of an event or contacting more speakers, so that an event can continue to run smoothly.

Volunteering with charities such as Little Village taught me how to take initiative and become independent in completing a certain aspect of a task while also working in a team to value other peoples’ input. Working in the hospitality industry also means I know the amount of planning and coordination that goes into a successful event.

If I was selected for this role, I would like to plan more academically relevant events to the society, including academic talks, panels and even practical workshops on research skills.
