I’m putting myself forward for the role of President, as Jiu Jitsu has been a huge part of my life for the past 5 years. At my previous club, I would teach on a regular basis, and I would love the opportunity to share the knowledge I’ve gained with UCLBJJ. I think the benefits of Jiu Jitsu are innumerable, and I want to share this incredible sport with as many people as possible, and help the club grow in any way I can. Last year, I received my purple belt, and I have aspirations to continue developing my own Jiu Jitsu whilst living in London, in order to be the best asset to UCLBJJ I can be. I want to help create an inclusive and hard-working culture within the club, with a focus on making students feel comfortable and empowered no matter their level of experience. Jiu Jitsu is a fantastic way to develop close friendships with people you would never normally meet, so I want to put an emphasis on the social aspect of the society, and work with the rest of the committee to create more opportunities for club members off of the mats.

I can’t wait to see the club develop and improve next year. See you all on the mats soon!

Heya!

Being Welfare Officer this year has been a great experience; I have really enjoyed learning about what goes on behind the scenes in the running of the club and also being there for members when they need help or support. It has been great to get to know and befriend many of you, and being on the committee has felt like an opportunity to give something back to a club that has been so good to me.

I feel that this experience has given me the insight and knowledge to take on a role with more responsibility, but also shown me where we could be doing more.

I want to bring back the successful event that was the UCL Beginners Battle, and increase the number of competitions we participate in throughout the year. These university comps are a great opportunity to gain competing experience at a great price.

Furthermore, rolling socials or rolling sessions are something I know members want more of, and they provide an opportunity for members to socialise outside of Phineas or Scala. Having been involved in these processes before, I know what needs to happen to get these done.

Something new that I would like to establish would be a proper system for members to purchase kit. I know members are keen to get some, and there is currently not a transparent or obvious way to get any UCL kit.

If my goals for the club are in alignment with what you want to see happen, consider voting me for President!

See you on the mats!

Ines :)
