I have been a member of the club for 4 years, and this would be my 5th year on the committee.

In my first year I was first year rep. In my second year, during the pandemic, I was president of the club and ensured the club ran in the form of online classes and organised and personally edited 11 hours of content, creating the content library. For my work on the committee, TeamUCL awarded me a sports commendation and for creating the content library I won the “Online Activator of the Year” award.

In the next year I served as president, returning the club to in person activity, growing it to larger than ever and implemented a number of policies, including increasing the number of socials, introducing the women’s only class, started rolling socials and organising our own competition, the UCLBJJ Beginners Battle. Unfortunately, I had to interrupt my studies due to health issues that have now been resolved.

Over the last year I have been treasurer and organised the martial arts ball and helped source an additional class.

Now I am back and want to help the club grow to new heights.

As captain I want to:

• Raise the competitive level in the club

• Get members to compete more regularly

• Sign an agreement between our club and an external gym to offer members more training and a place we can hold more classes

• Organise a comp class

UCLBJJ can be much better. I can see our club producing well-rounded grapplers.

I will put greater emphasis on wrestling and control in a playful way; mainly drilling and flow sparring in the stand up. With proper explanation of technique and follow-ups.

On the ground: drill, drill, drill. Covering all the basics.

For warm-ups. Exercises which truly get you warm.

A small but major change I will make is 10-15 minutes of conditioning at the end sessions.
