Hi, I’m Anam and alongside Beatrice, would love to be one of your Fundraisers this year!
I am no stranger to a cheeky (but also slightly stressful) spot of Rival Kit roulette, so I understand first-hand the need for stash that; 1) is comfortable to row in so you feel empowered to perform your best, and 2) makes you look and feel as delicious as you know you are. Bea and I are keen to understand what new kit you want, and what we can do to ensure that no one feels as if there is no kit for them.
Having really enjoyed being part of the inclusivity subcommittee this year Bea and I really hope to work with the inclusivity officer to establish an outreach branch to improve accessibility to university and rowing. As well as this, we hope to have a real emphasis on new and existing charity events like a Rowathon (apologies in advance), as well as volunteering at a soup kitchen to wind down post-outing and do some good along the way.
Bea and I have some really exciting things planned for the coming year, and are very aware that the role of fundraiser is largely influenced by you, so if you have any questions, suggestions or objections, please let us know!
Don’t forget to read Bea’s statement for more!!
Fundraising is an essential part of RUMSBC, it builds solidarity and community within this club, whether its using our beautiful singing voices to charm people to somehow give us donations, taking part in Movember or organising the amazing RUMSBC merch, we all wear.
I have many ideas to help this society thrive. I think it would be a great idea to introduce RUMSBC bumbags, so certain people don’t lose anything. In regards to social activities, I think a bake sale would be quite cute to organise as well as broadening our horizons from RUMS sports societies and doing charity events like RUMSBC tries a new sport for the week like volleyball or cricket!
For a bit about my experience, this year I was director of finance for the largest student led surgical conference in the UK. Through this I have learnt persistence and communication skills, the fact that one email is never enough for someone to reply, so I will be constantly badgering people to get shit done. I played an active role in getting sponsorships and communicating with them as well as working along side the president, and everyone else in committee to make around £8000 in ticket sales and sponsorships, which is the largest amount surgical society has made in one go to this day.
I have what it takes for this role, so vote for me!
hey everyone!
I'm Beatrice, and I'm standing alongside Anam to be one of your fundraisers for this year!
as someone who has very much been enjoying the veritable *buffet* of kit available this year, due to my almost violent passion for kit, I know how important it is that we all have things to wear on the water that make us feel confident and ready to win (sexy kit = sexy rowing). therefore, we would make sure that there is a stronger focus on ensuring that our kit reflects the diverse nature of our club, something that we all take great pride in.
it's really important that when we're in the boat we can all focus, and so the introduction of different kit options that provide everyone with an opportunity to row is the priority! we will, of course, be open to what people are looking for in their kit, and making sure that we have the thoughts and opinions (did someone say survey?) of the members at heart, but we would certainly be looking at improving the alternatives to the unisuit.
given the current cozzy livs, we would also make sure that you're getting high quality kit (the UH fleece is shaking) that's going to last, and kit that's not going to kill the planet because that's not gorgeous at all.
big boat club love and kisses xxx
ps we would also adore to make the club a place that can give back even more - I know that this club has already given me so much since I joined, so supporting others would be incredible!! see Anam's statement for more details on our plans.
