With my experience as a novice fresh in my mind, I understand the importance of reliable equipment. Being able to trust your boat means you can trust yourself, and row better. As maintenance officer I will:

  • Organize workshops for novices to learn the basics of maintenance (Footplates, heel-restraints, seats & riggers). This will prevent incidents like Henrik’s rigger coming loose at Allom and Mante’s seat flying off at Quintin and BUCS, while captains and maintenance officers can tackle other tasks.
  • Create a simple and direct system for members to report problems, through Google forms or sheets, and track the resolution of these problems.
  • Be especially involved around race time to ensure de-rigging and re-rigging is as smooth as possible
  • Maintain a degree of organisation and cleanliness at the boat bay, including decluttering cupboards and setting up some sort of lost and found

I will also be spending plenty of time at the boat house, helping with the novices and rowing with the seniors when I can, so will always be on hand to address maintenance issues.
