Election post
Hello,
My name is Amanda (she/they), and I am an autistic postgraduate student running for the position of Welfare Officer of the UCL Autism Society. In my spare time, I enjoy video games, music and science fiction. I am committed to supporting the well-being of autistic students and other members of the society.
My academic background is in psychology and mental health, most recently having completed MSc Clinical Mental Health Sciences at UCL. I have past experience of being Welfare Officer for the UCL Autism Society in academic year 2021-22 (which included training specific to the role) as well as work experience supporting young adults with disabilities and learning difficulties in the education sector. Currently, I am studying MPhil/PhD Clinical, Educational and Health Psychology which is continually increasing my understanding of the diverse lives and needs of autistic people. I am confident my learning and personal experience of being autistic will help me effectively support the members of UCL Autism Society.
If elected, I would aim to:
1. Work with the society's leadership team to increase awareness, acceptance and understanding of autism spectrum condition
2. Signpost society members to services and resources that can help improve their well-being
3. Contribute to the planning and running of activities that support the well-being of members
