Hello guys! I chose to stand up for this position as it ties with asset management and the fulfilment of making everyone feel welcome.
During university and my latter years of sixth form, I've been always a point of help. People often came to me asking for advice with regards to many things, from very serious matters to just there day has been as they see me as a safe person to express their issues too and feel comfortable talking to, even if I don't have any particular knowledge (one person even talked about his problems in trying to get married).
A lot of the traits of a welfare officer I've developed in tutoring and mentoring. I had been a tutor for the last 2 years and my experience with SEND students allowed me to secure a role as a professional SEN tutor where I work with kids who are outside the traditional education system. Whether the child is unique or not, making sure a child feels safe, comfortable and welcomed is a critical part of anyone who works with children, hence I've gathered great experience in understanding whether someone is comfortable in a group.
I was fortunate to do an internship with BlackRock before university and will be attending Standard Chartered's spring insight in their Investment management division. I enjoyed the skills and culture of working in asset management and found fascinating the strategies they used to build wealth for clients, hence I want to become an analyst and develop myself.
Hi all! My name is Lia and I am a first year student studying Physics. I first came across UCLAM through the bootcamp where I had absolutely no finance knowledge. Going into finance from a non-finance background was daunting, but the bootcamp really helped me get a firm base in my understandings and it motivated me to invest my own time into finance studies. After the bootcamp, I was fortunate enough to attend the L/S Analyst academy where I have created an exponential learning curve and most importantly, have made valuable friendships. In that sense, UCLAM is particularly meaningful for me because my whole finance journey has been with the society.
I really appreciate the countless hours put in by the committee to deliver this and would love to get involved for next year. What I particularly value in UCLAM is the fact the society focuses education unlike other finance societies. I recognise that without all the help I've had from my seniors, it would be impossible to be where I am now, so I really want to contribute back to the community and pass on the good deed to my juniors next year.
For that reason, I am running for the welfare officer, where I will be able to have closer interactions with members and making sure the society is as wholesome as it is now! I am currently an investment analyst in the society and am planning to be involved in our annual bootcamp next year. Thank you for reading!
