Hey! I'm Angelina, a first-year International Social and Political Studies student. As a member of Asiatic Affairs, I've really enjoyed meeting new people and participating in the various events. I'm running for Publications Officer because I think Asiatic Affairs is a great platform to share opinions regarding this region. I also see the society as an opportunity to form a community of people with this shared interest!.
If I am elected, I hope to:
1. Continue publishing submitted work on the Asiatic Affairs website
2. Spread greater awareness about our website and increase interest in publishing work through creating weekly/monthly writing prompts/topics
3. Reviving the Asiatic Affairs Podcast, hopefully inviting special guest speakers to feature on the Podcast!
4. Create opportunities for people who have an interest in editing work
5. Work to publish the Asiatic Affairs Journal next year!
Personally, I have written for Narrative Collections, a youth-led platform, and the UCL Film & TV Society Journal. I see how meaningful writing can be — a way to spark greater awareness and further conversation. I hope that to achieve that together in Asiatic Affairs!
My name is Fynn and I am currently a second-year history student. The reason I am standing for this position is because I think the Asiatic Affair's publication opportunities are unique for UCL students in allowing them to comment and learn about a great variety of topics concerning Asia. As a history student focusing on China I recognise the importance in opportunities to get published for academic reasons or personal interests. The Asiatic Affairs Journal has not published recently and I want to change this by aiming to release a new issue of the journal at the end of every term. If I were to be elected as Publication Officer I would contact various UCL departments directly to spread awareness to their respective students of the opportunities offered by writing and getting published in our journal or website. I would look forward to taking your ideas and in supporting everyone in making full use of these publication opportunities, while at the same time helping to expand the society by incorporating new students.
I also think that I would bring unique experiences to this position by having completed editing work, as well as academic research through my work as a research assistant and editor for a historical documentary and a foreign policy and public policy journal. I think these experiences in publications and writing will ultimately make me well suited for this role over the next academic year and allow me to valuable contribute to this important element of the society.
