Arts and Sciences Society: President

Hi! Being BASc Society's First Year Rep, I witnessed the diverse and exciting atmosphere of our degree's society. It was a pleasure to learn from the committee the dynamics of running a society and all the work that goes behind the events, from the Winter Ball, to the Alumni Talks and First Year Bowling social, among others. 

I took a lead with the organisation of the bowling event for first years which turned out to be a success together with helping in the development of other events which bring our community together, developing the skills which would be necessary to take on the president position. In a degree like BASc, a tight community is key!

I found that this supporting and vivacious environment in and outside the common room is influenced by the members' individuality and friendliness, which I learnt is crucial especially when settling in in the first months of university, reason why I would suggest the following ideas:

• First Year events especially in the first half of term (i.e. visits around London, bowlings, socials)
• BASc socials in collaboration with other UCL societies 
• A year abroad panel event for alumns to share their experiences
• Networking events and panels with professionals from a variety of fields and more career workshops 
• A BASc sports day!
