Hi, my name is Serene and I'm running to be your Vice-President of the UCL AI Society this year!
For the past year, I've been intricately involved with the committee and wider AI community, organising the first iteration of Foundry, our start-up incubator, and working with marketing and partnerships for the society. For Foundry, I managed to onboard partners such as Microsoft, Sequoia, and Entrepreneur First to benefit our start-ups. I believe that as the AI Society, there is untapped potential between our base and industry, and I would make this central to my time as VP. With a greater focus on networks to industry, this would be through more involvement with projects and real-world impacts of tech, giving our members a chance to apply the knowledge they have gained with us.
As a penultimate year Arts & Sciences student, my experience with interdisciplinarity has broadened my horizons, and I would love to integrate more non-technical parts of AI - such as AI ethics, which I have been working on with our society podcast, Reinforcement Talking! This expands into greater cross-collaboration with the UCL AI Centre and UCL Sustainability Lab, where I have been involved with integrating movements like AI for Social Good.
I would love the opportunity to take the AI Society to greater heights and make it more accessible to students from all backgrounds - if this sounds like a society you'd like to make part of your time at UCL, I would greatly appreciate your vote! Thank you <3
I'm Zak, and I want to be your VP because I am:
- Determined to make our society the leader in AI engagement. This means more fun & social learning. Naturally, more Doxathons
- Have both extensive industry experience and society experience to propagate the actual change. This means more industry workshops & more hands-on seminars on the intersection of AI and other subjects
- Will boost the collaboration with industry. Corporates should want to talk to our members, not the other way round
Why me?
- Made the UCL AI Foundry. From scratch. Together with Martynas (who is running for president), we led the program through the organisational nightmare to the eventual recognition by the industry. In half a year, we have not only built by far, the coolest student-led startup accelerator at UCL & beyond, but also have reinforced the society as the firm leader in student engagement with AI. As a VP, I will take this effort to the whole new level
- Finally, I have strong managerial skills, capability and desire to collaborate to bring the rest of the committee & president onboard to our transformational efforts
