Hi all! I'm Rachelle, a first-year geophysics student, and I'm running for Events Officer this year! Being a part of this community has been a highlight of my university experience & I can't wait to give back by organising events that unite us all.
I'm passionate about building a community and fostering connections. As a black woman in STEM, I understand the isolation that university can bring, which is why I believe ACS is crucial for sharing experiences and building friendships. In terms of experience, I served as a Sports Captain and House Prefect. During these roles, I collaborated with senior staff and peers and actively sought feedback for improvement. I aim to transfer these skills and organise more frequent & inclusive events for all members.
As Events Officer, I intend to introduce fresh ideas to the ACS calendar. Although many ideas will remain a surprise, I hope to bring a new perspective to the role. While we enjoy events like The Infamous Take Me Out, I aim to add more events that unite us, including:
- "Friends Edition" speed dating event
- UOL sports day
- Summer Cookout
- Roller skating & bowling nights
- Escape room night
- More trivia, movie, & games nights
- Guest speaker series discussing topics on black culture (let's allow the debates on the UK aesthetic)
- Food festival night- celebrating good food across the African diaspora whilst enjoying Afro-Caribbean tunes.
So to find out more, all you have to do is vote for me, so don't lack!
Hii people.
Joining ACS has made my time at university more fun and enjoyable, allowing me to meet and connect with many people.
Even though there have been many events this year, I feel like the ACS could do even more to meet society's demands. One of my goals is to provide new entertaining events and improve the traditional ones.
In addition, London provides us with a unique university experience that many other students don't get the privilege to experience due to the endless opportunities in a wide range of sectors and industries.
I want to organise more events that would allow us to connect with students from these other universities and help to create a greater sense of community with all of Londond's ACS. Also, I want to organise more events that encourage more interaction within the different years, as having people from older years to talk to can be very useful.
I know this role requires an individual who is very organised and has excellent communication skills. I feel like my previous experiences and connections with people across London will help me perform well in this role. Furthermore, the skill and insight I have gained as a first-year rep for ACS have made me aware of what people want, and as an event officer, I will try my best to meet these needs.
