I am standing as treasurer for ABACUS because I believe in the importance of managing finances effectively and transparently. I understand that good financial management is essential for any organization, and particularly for a society that is dependent on membership fees and events to operate. As treasurer, I would ensure that all financial records are accurate and up-to-date, and that the society operates within its budget. I would work closely with the other members of the committee to make informed financial decisions and prioritize spending to maximize the impact of the society's activities. I would also ensure that all committee members have access to information about the society's financial position and are able to provide feedback and suggestions for improvement. Overall, I am committed to ensuring that the society operates in a financially responsible and sustainable manner, so that it can continue to provide valuable experiences and opportunities to its members for years to come.

Andy Chen

Hey everyone! I’m Andy, a first-year student in management science and would like to nominate myself for treasurer at ABACUS.

ABACUS has been a home to many, and established a sense of belonging and comfort for students of a similar cultural background. My role as a first-year representative has exposed me to the spirit, inclusivity, and support provided by the community, which strengthened my desire to continue committing to this society as a treasurer. I believe it’s now my turn to ‘give back’ to ABACUS through means of planning and hosting exciting events in the future :)

My main responsibilities will be revolved around assessing the financial feasibility, budget, and overall expenditure of all activities within ABACUS. This includes making well-informed decisions to assure a healthy cashflow and effective management of finance to offer sufficient resources for the organisation of quality events. Being a management science student has provided me with the advantage of quantitative and financial skills to support the duties of this potential position, but also prepared me with the experience of handling more complex financial situations.

I hope to the preserve the inclusive and welcoming environment established by previous committees if I was elected as the treasurer for next year.

Thank you !!

I've had lots of fun participating in ABACUS events this year, particularly the sporting events. The ABACUS community consists of primarily english-speaking asians, and as someone who certainly relates to and grew up with a similar community, it definitely contributes to the comfortability the society delivers. I've met good friends and have had good times as an ABACUS member this year, and I would like to be more involved next year. The best way I feel that I can do this is through the role of treasurer. My introverted nature means a less standout role would be suitable, and I am great with money, so treasurer seems like the perfect fit. Thanks for your consideration.
