Vietsoc has been a significant part of my uni experience, a reassuring place of comfort and a joyful source of fun. As the current Treasurer, I am delighted to have worked with this year’s committee to successfully deliver many events ranging from member gatherings to intercollegiate parties. It would be a pleasure to serve as the President next year.

I will continue the efforts of creating a welcoming environment for international and local Vietnamese students and providing exciting networking opportunities via collaborative events with societies within and outside UCL. To support members in making the most out of living in London, I plan to arrange field trips and get members access to exclusive deals, including a discounted movie ticket scheme that is already being finalised. As a proud Vietnamese, I would also like to organise large-scale campus events like food fairs to share our culture and contribute to the diversity celebration at UCL.

Being on the committee of Vietsoc and other UCL societies has given me an intimate understanding of how to manage a society effectively. Meeting the tight deadlines for these organisations while balancing academic commitments, I demonstrated flexibility and good organisation skills. I developed excellent communication and leadership skills through mentoring freshers as they transitioned into uni and representing my cohort at student-staff meetings.

I hope to gain your support in realising my vision for Vietsoc.

Mai Nguyen

Hi all ?

My name is Mai and I'm running for President. I served as Event Coordinator last year, I was responsible for the Halloween, Christmas, and Tet social. As I was previously on the committee, I understand what it takes to successfully run the society. I am currently the treasurer and acting vice president for the 5th largest sports society at UCL, I am confident that I can be a good president for VietSoc as I possess excellent leadership and organization skills.

My plans if I am President

  • Inter-uni VietFest
  • Monthly social events with VietSocs all across London
  • A buddy or parent system for incoming freshers to help them settle in
  • Biweekly welfare socials where we all get together to paint or do origami, this will be a place to de-stress and discuss any issues you may have going on
  • Sponsorship with large Vietnamese supermarket chains
  • Design and produce society merchandise- these include hoodies, pins and stickers
  • Hold termly webinar events, discussing grad schemes with popular Vietnamese companies
An H Phan

Dear Members of UCL Vietnamese Society,

My name is An Ha Phan, and I’m a second-year Biomedical Sciences student.

As the former President of The UCL Vietnamese Society, I have managed a small team of committees to organise various successful events such as Halloween Party, Shopee Career Event and Intercollegiate dinners. The small team size required me to carry out jobs that lie outside the realm of my responsibilities but has also given me the chance to learn from and lead my team. That’s why I can say with confidence that I have developed my teamwork, networking and communication skills via many occasions where I connected and hosted events with other Vietnamese communities within the UK.

If elected I would aim to:
- Organise 1-2 events per month to increase social interaction between members
- Connect our members with the Vietnamese alumni communities via networking events
- Build a community that is open to all nationalities and ethnicities
- Collaborate with different universities across the UK to host dinners, pub socials and networking events
- Bring back Vietfest to increase outreach within the UCL community as well as enhance the society’s reputation

Thank you for reading my manifesto and please don’t hesitate to contact me for any further questions or ideas.
