Maya Khurana

Hi! I'm Maya Khurana, a first-year student studying history and philosophy of science and one of your event officers for this year. As someone who has seen what it takes to make events happen, I hope to be your treasurer in order to help make the finances available in order to help Space Soc put together more events and opportunities in the next year! I've really enjoyed my time in Space Soc this past year, and I want to make sure next year is just as great!

I also do happen to have a strong love for spreadsheets and would be very happy to apply that love of spreadsheets towards Space Society finances! :)

So yeah - vote for me for treasurer!

Oisin R Moriarty

Hi, my name is Oisin, I’m a first-year physics student and have been the Competitions Officer this year. I have greatly enjoyed working with and for the space society and the community of space enthusiasts that make it so great.

As treasurer I would work diligently to increase the budget of the society, enabling an increase in the scope and scale of all events. In my quest for finance, I would explore all options including looking for sponsorship deals, private financing, and fundraising events. Moreover, I believe sufficient financing is a crucial ingredient of any successful society. Additionally, I would ensure a fair distribution of funds between the different divisions of the society, reflecting the balance of what our members enjoy and making sure everyone, no matter their specific niche interest in space, can feel welcome in the society.

As well as financing, I would try to expand the number of engagement opportunities, including starting weekly discussion groups and a blog on current space news and research. I believe opportunities like this, as well as competitions, give members some of the best ways to build knowledge, experience, and connections, helping them to hopefully pursue careers in the space industry.

Finally, I’d hope to continue the friendly culture at the space society and would always be open to new ideas and suggestions from members on events we could run and things we could improve.
