Election post

Elected

It has been a massive year for RUMS with the return of in-person events, sports, and performances. It is now crucial to use this turning point to our advantage and boost the presence and inclusivity of RUMS in a sustainable and stable manner.

If elected, I hope to:

  • REVAMP THE RUMS CALENDAR. Spreading our events, welfare projects and programmes more evenly would allow us to engage with all year groups. Landmark events such as Take Me Out will make a return along with end-of-term socials.
  • IMPLEMENT ACTIONABLE IDEAS FROM EDI DISCUSSIONS. Through the EDI discussion groups this year, ideas regarding inclusivity and accessibility have been floated to the committee. I would make it a priority to implement these ideas in all our events and programmes to create an environment in RUMS that everyone would be comfortable engaging with.
  • CREATE AN ASSISTED SOCIAL HOSTING SCHEME. There have been a range of ideas for socials that have come from the RUMS community this year. Creating a scheme that facilitates anyone in RUMS to host an event would boost our range and inclusivity.
  • INCREASE TRANSPARENCY AND COMMUNICATION. The committee has been engaged in an enormous amount of behind-the-scenes work regarding issues such as gender-based violence, harassment, mental health and equality. As president, I would work to ensure that the progress and outcome of this work is communicated effectively to the RUMS community to gather feedback aimed at making sustainable change.
