The Cheese Grater Investigations team is a community I wholeheartedly cherish being a part of. In the past year, I've gotten to work with talented, empathetic writers and editors in the process of contributing to and writing multiple articles while feeling like a member of a newsroom through the ever professional yet always welcoming weekly meetings.
This is why I've decided to run for Investigations Editor, as I wish to bring this fun and rewarding experience to more students interested in journalism. I believe that The Cheese Grater plays a crucial role within the larger student media landscape here at UCL since our reputation for pushing boundaries allows us to effectively highlight the voices of marginalised and overlooked members of the university community, as well as to examine the policies of the university administration in a more critical light.
If elected, I promise to ensure that Cheese Grater Investigations continues to produce engaging, insightful stories through both Investigations and Voices pieces, and to foster an accepting community open to any interested in speaking truth to power!
Hi, I’m Samir, but you guys can of course call me Sam. I’ve been covering the student union this past year and have gained an interesting insight not only of how the Student Union works but also how UCL works. We’ve all grown accustomed to hearing about UCL’s dodgy dealings and I believe it is up to us to hold them accountable. Another problem I think we’ve all noticed is a general apathy towards student politics and a lack of awareness in how UCL operates. In the next year I hope to ensure we continue in our focus to expose the shortcomings of our key institutions. Further we need to continue to empress the importance the issues we cover has to every student.
