Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Club: First Year Representative

Hi, I'm Alan. I am nominating myself for the position of First Year Representative.

Having come to university, it is evident that many students suffer problems and walk around with a dark cloud around their head. At home, on campus, all sorts of issues, big and small that negatively impact their university and broader life well-being. Loneliness and feelings of isolation is the biggest problem I have noticed, especially for new students and one I personally struggle with. If you would like to ever have a talk, lunch, a drink. As FYR, I will do everything within my power to make sure that you are doing well on a personal level. I will also continue to educate myself more on the support facilities UCL has to offer and all other possible sources I can find in order to be as useful as possible.

BJJ was the first society I attended and each and every member I met made me feel the most welcome and were the most supportive group of people I had encountered at uni so far, and I would like to extend the branch and continue to promote this attitude and approachability I now associate with the society. I will work alongside the society and the student body to try and get as retain as many new members as possible and to encourage BJJ as a martial art but most importantly as an active skill that has no barriers to entry.

My main priority as a member of my family, friends and peers is a simple one : to be there.
