Hey Guys!!

I have really enjoyed my past two years as a member of RUMSBC, and I am really excited to now have a chance to maybe give a little bit back as your Fundraiser.

If elected, I would organise all the current fundraising events; and maybe try to add a few more (rowathons, themed socials, etc). I would like to raise the profile of fundraising, and try to build engagement even more. To do this I would work alongside the rest of the committee to establish clear, achievable, and measurable fundraising goals that will be shared with the club. I feel that this will help everyone to feel more involved with what is going on. I would also like to partner ourselves with a charity (chosen in a vote) for the year to help streamline any charitable endeavours that we will carry out.

Finally, (and perhaps most importantly!), I will work with yourselves and with suppliers to make sure that we have the best kit at the Boat House!

I have developed excellent communication, teamwork, and organisation skills through my volunteering with a children’s charity, my time as secretary of the sixth-form council, and in my part-time job. I feel that these will all help me to do the best possible job that I can as your Fundraiser.

I’m looking forward to your vote, and if you have any suggestions/questions, I’m always down for a chat.

Arjun Patel

Hey, I’m Arjun and I’m running to be your fundraising officer for next year! I’ve really enjoyed participating in charity runs such as the colour run and rat race and would love to pass this onto our club through group entries to events such as these.

I’d like to work closely with social secretaries to facilitate regular events outside of sportsnights such as ice skating, paintball and go karting for RUMSBC members to help promote crew bonding alongside the beloved Pub Quiz and Christmas Carolling for the Royal Free charity. I’d also like to highlight individual club member’s campaigns to raise money, such as erging, cycling and running challenges, for charitable causes with next year’s social media and comms officer.

During sixth form, I led a team aiming to raise awareness and funds for a school in Kerala by running a stall at our school fete and speeches during school assemblies. This developed my leadership abilities which I would use in this role.

I believe it’s important to ensure everyone’s opinions are valued so if you have any ideas, I’d love to hear them!

Zakira Klico

Hi, I’m Kira, I’m going into 3rd year and would love to form a part of next year’s committee as a Fundraising Officer! RUMSBC has truly shaped my university experience this year, with fundraising events such as the Pub Quiz and Christmas Carolling being some of the highlights for me. Racing, of course, is another key element of what we do and I’m a firm believer in the power of matching kit: it immediately unites a crew, while intimidating the competition on race day. It is for these reasons that I have decided to run for this role. Having recently received my RUMSBC visor, I understand how kit can make you feel officially part of the club. My aim for next year is to open up discussion to new kit ideas, as well as the revival of previous favourites. I’d also love to bring a charity sponsorship into an item of kit chosen by you as a way to raise awareness for their cause. This was an initiative I organised at my previous club, so I am aware of the organisation and communication skills needed to successfully achieve this. In terms of fundraising, I will strive to use my experience in large-scale event organisation for the RUMS Events Subcommittee to replicate the successes of this year’s Fundraising team. Events I’d also love to add to the calendar include a sponsored row and The Great BC Bake Off to showcase our talents both on and off the water, whilst raising money for charity and funding an improved club for the future!

Owen Colligan

I would love the opportunity to be your fundraiser next year! I would aim to continue the great work our fundraisers have done this year to raise money for some amazing charities, with events like the Pub Quiz for the Royal Free. I would also listen to any requests for causes people are keen to contribute to. I would also like to organise and promote some other fundraising events to help raise money for RUMSBC, which could be used to improve our equipment and contribute to the funds for new boats. These could include erg challenges or charity cycles.

I also know how much we all love RUMSBC stash! I would like to hear your ideas on what you would like to see added to our current collection, and endeavour to fulfil your requests, so we can show everyone that we belong to the best club in UL! I would also like to set up a spreadsheet/page where people can offer some of their old kit, especially to help out the novices and new members who may not have unisuits.

Abena Amponsah

RUMSBC has been a big part of my life for 3 years! Along with the vast number of skills I have developed, I have also acquired a large amount of stash. I predict that every other item of clothing I own is RUMSBC branded at this moment in time. This has made me realise that becoming Fundraiser could be the job for me!  If you vote for me, I will:

1) Bring in an even wider range of stash at lower prices! I would like to bring in more jumpers similar to the UH sweatshirts. I will also listen to the ideas of the club members.

2) I will establish an official method in which older members who have left the club can sell their kit to newer members. The cost of the kit can be a barrier for some people to join the club. Oftentimes, advertisements on Facebook can get lost.

3) I would like to work with local rowing clubs in the Chiswick area to improve accessibility to rowing and medicine. I will do this in conjunction with the Inclusivity Officer.

4) Implement new ideas to raise money for charity. I'm really interested in challenges such as a sponsored cycle or walk!

I am a highly driven person who gives 100% to everything I do. I really enjoyed my year working on the club's Media and Comms and I hope you enjoyed the posts that I created.

Vote Abena for Fundraiser :)
