One of the best gallery experiences I’ve had happened when I met with a fellow gallery lover for the first time, and we spent hours talking and constructing our own meaning of the artworks. As the candidate for Gallery & Events Officer, I hope to create an active art engagement culture in our society, where fellow artists and art spectators are encouraged to connect and be inspired by one another — all over art.
There are a few ideas regarding gallery trips I would like to pursue if elected. One of the frustrations for me during previous trips was that it was hard to identify who belonged to the society once everyone was dispersed in the gallery, thus making connections difficult. I would like to propose an optional “secret dress code” for gallery trips — e.g., wearing non-matching socks — so that members on the society who wish to be “found” and start a conversation while appreciating art can be easily identified. Another idea is to implement a “buddy scheme” that randomly groups 3-4 people who demonstrated interest in the respective gallery trip, so that these gallery trips can hopefully serve as the beginning of more art-bonding conversations.
I’m also experienced in event-organizing and coordination, skills I will apply to my role here. I have lead the organization of Art Exhibition on a departmental level in high school, and have interned at a national summer camp with responsibilities in course development and activity counseling.
Hi everyone! I'm Jiatong.
I really enjoyed attending events last year and wanted to be involved in organising more interesting events. I have been painting with watercolour for more than 5 years, so my enthusiasm for art has been always constant. During my stay in London, I have visited most of the famous art galleries, such as the V&A Museum and Tate Modern. I have also been following recent art events and exhibitions. Besides, I have made some connections to local artists and art studios in London, including ceramics and dyeing. I am really looking forward to organising visits to interesting galleries, art fairs and workshops next year!
Hi guys! My name is Tjun Yi and I'm a second year Law student. I love exploring different galleries across London. As Gallery and Events Officer, I will organise regular trips over the next academic year. My current plan is to organise a trip to a different gallery each month; focusing not just on the big exhbitions but also at smaller galleries. I am particularly interested in looking at a diverse collection of art from different time periods, cultures and identities.
Hope to see you soon at our next event!
