I am standing to be Vice President as I hope to contribute to ABACUS’ internationalism, innovation and inclusivity. As a society embracing British and Chinese cultures at UCL, the internationalism ABACUS represents is particularly attractive to me as a “third culture kid”. Having moved from country to country throughout my childhood, I have always been an “international” and believe we should celebrate what makes us unique. To do this, I aim to increase collaboration with other cultural societies and embrace our shared and diverse cultures.

Through internal organisation and collaborations, I will innovate and bring exciting events to ABACUS like garden parties, picnics, themed dinners and more club nights! Having served as First Year Representative, I have experience witnessing and helping organise the inner workings of ABACUS events. As such, I know how to manage the logistics behind a successful gathering and will use these transferrable skills to collaborate with the new committee.

Finally, I hope to strengthen inclusivity by listening and responding to the needs of our society.

Having been Head Girl and Secretary General at my high school, I understand the importance of being a communicative and approachable leader; a skill especially important as VP. I believe working towards a shared vision to be extremely important and will help create one based on the feedback from our society members.

Thank you and please vote Yi Xin for VP!
