Amelie Romano Gonzalez

As a proud Mexican, Latin American, and current History, Politics, Economics student, I am beyond excited to stand for the position of Treasurer of the UCL Latin American Affairs Society. My academic background gives me a proficiency in finance and budgeting, skills I believe are essential for maintaining the society’s success. I also have practical experience handling finances through previous leadership roles in student organizations; for instance, in Mexico, I was president of the Female Empowerment movement, where I learned to lead an entire professional team, manage budgets responsibly, and ensure transparency.

I am standing as I consider that as a Latin American woman, I truly understand the essence of the region and will be devoted to solving any financial issue, or issue of any kind, in order to keep this amazing society running smoothly. Furthermore, I am very passionate about sharing my culture with others who are interested or part of it so we can all celebrate it and learn  together. But above all else, I am deeply committed to sharing the wonderful and vibrant Latin American culture at UCL through the society.

Gianella Peña Barbery

Hola! Oi! Hi!

My name is Gia, I’m from Ecuador, and I’m currently pursuing an MSc in Security Studies. During my undergraduate studies, I was actively involved in societies and clubs, and this year I would love the opportunity to serve as your Treasurer.

Why me?
During my undergrad, I served as Vice-President of both the MUN Society and the Latam Society. Through these roles, I got to understand better of how societies function as a team and learned how to step in and support different roles when needed, including the Treasurer role. This has given me a realistic understanding of tasks and responsibilities of the role.

Also, I currently work at a Foundation as a Logistics Officer, where I collaborate closely with the Finance Department. In this role, I’ve developed a few new skills in budget planning, cost reduction, quote comparison, and (TW jumpscare) Excel. All essential tools and qualities for a Treasurer!

Finally, as someone born and raised in Latin America, I am incredibly proud of our culture and always happy to share it with the world, and there is  no better way to do this at UCL than by being part of the Latam Affairs Society and be part of the team.

I hope I can count on your vote. I promise I won’t disappoint you!
