Drama Society: Diversity and Inclusion Officer

I am standing for the position of Diversity and Inclusion Officer because I am deeply committed to fostering an environment where everyone feels seen, heard, and valued. As a director for Reclamation, I understand how the drama society can benefit from initiatives that celebrate the uniqueness of every member. 

Having worked on adaptations of classic plays that integrate diverse cultural and historical contexts, I understand the power of representation and storytelling in creating inclusive spaces. This is also one of the initiatives I want to initiate - a workshop on how canonical texts can be reinterpreted. I have written and directed an adaption of ‘She Stoops To Conquer’ to a 1970s Pakistani setting and am currently working on adapting Wide Sargasso Sea for theatre. 

Through these workshops, I wish to engage the student body with the techniques of adapting classical texts and contemporary literature to theatre to allow a wider representation. In this role, I am committed to ensuring that the fosters promotes dialogue and creates opportunities for underrepresented narratives.
