Wow. I didn't think we'd be here. Sometimes it is time to act, sometimes it is time to step up.

I've been on UCL committee longer than anyone still around, I've seen UCL Debating Society operate as well-oiled machine, I've also seen it operate like me taking the 4th on a social narratives motion. I'd like to think I have a grasp on what it takes to run this society well.

We need transparency, communication and inclusivity. I've been training officer for two years now and I know how hard it is to operate under poor delegation and lack of communication. I don't want this for the society. I can't tell you that I'll walk into this presidency like Prime JFK. I can promise you that I will not walk into it alone. We have a large committee for a reason, so that as many people as possible can help us democratically decide how to handle big and difficult situations.

I love debate, I coach at the high school level, I coach at the university level, I compete, I attend show debates with other societies. I love what UCL debate society advertises itself to be. I want to help make it that, I want to help everyone learn to love this activity in the way that I have and to feel as accepted and aided by this community as we all deserve to be.

My priorities:

Consistency, so as few of you feel any transitionary pressures as possible.

Transparency, so you can question decisions, so you can understand why we do what we do and how we do what we do.

The Future.

For your consideration,

Nav Dhaliwal
