Clean water for all is an extremely important goal for the world to achieve. A lot of problems concerning water access in countries with little access to clean water can easily be solved by persuading governments to make it a priority. Coming from a country where water is abundant, but the quality and hygiene of tap water is disregarded, WASH’s aim of making water – the source of life – the utmost priority is something that I believe is vital. As a result, I would be extremely appreciative if you would vote for me, as I guarantee that I will try my best to ensure that WASH’s goals are closer to being achieved.
Hi, I’m Zara and I’m an incoming final year PPE with Social Data Science student.
I was the 2021/22 President of the UCL Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Society. Under my leadership, the UCL WASH Society:
- Has been recognised as the most active WASH society out of all UK universities affiliated with WaterAid UK. UCL WASH’s following grew by over 230% compared to the previous year.
- Has been nominated for the Charity and Community Impact Award at the Societies Awards 2022.
- Raised over £200 for WaterAid UK. Funds were directed towards WaterAid’s Winter Appeal initiative, to help provide clean water and sanitation in Nepal.
- Presented at the London Student Sustainability Conference on UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6.
As Head of Sustainability Research, I hope to widen UCL WASH's outreach and its mission to raise awareness of UN SDG 6. I hope to further expand the society's blog, which already features articles written by undergraduates from other institutions, such as Brown University.
