Hi everyone! I’m Leckhna and I am currently a first-year medical student.
Over the past year, I have been on the SfGH Universities Allied for Essential Medicines subcommittee. This role has consolidated my passion for global health and made me realise it is something that I would like to pursue in the future.
One of my main goals for next year as General Secretary is to introduce a volunteering aspect to the society. Many global health charities rely on donations to continue their work and I believe it would be great if we could get involved with this fundraising. Aside from providing invaluable support to the charities that are at the forefront of global health support, it would give us the opportunity to understand more about the charities and, if you are interested, get involved in longer term projects with them. I would also like to organise more collaborative events between different SfGH committees (including the subcommittees). I believe that this will be allow us to meet many like-minded people and share our passion for global health on a wider platform. Finally, I want to ensure that our events next year are accessible to students from any discipline. Due to the nature of the topics, I have noticed that many of our events are targeted at healthcare students and at times, they may feel inaccessible to students from other disciplines. However, this should definitely not be the case – global health is something that anyone can get involved in. I hope that by organising events that are more accessible to all, we
