Sri Lankan Society: Events Officers

The events in the past year have been exciting and great way to socialise with fellow Sri Lankans. I have always been involved in the planning of group trips and school gameshow events. I believe I have the skills to work with the other committee members to plan events that will bring the UCL Sri Lankans community together.

Having been Marketing Director for Sri Lankan Society this year, I have experience in promoting events and understand event organisation. As Events Officer, I want to take the commitment and legacy of such events to the next level by utilising my event planning experience to work with the main committee and help smoothly organise more enticing Sri Lankan Society events, such as Karaoke/Open Mic night, Movie Night, Pub Crawl, Bowling Night etc. I am very passionate about events organisation especially, as I have some experience both as events worker and as a planner. I am also interested to start a variety showcase event, like Mega Maalai and I believe our society has the capacity to do that. One of my greatest skills is hard work and dedication- I have experience in both sorting out event details and venues, and communicating with people to ensure smooth running. Also as a music artist, I have experience in working under pressure on the day of events such as organising props and day arrangements for variety showcase events, that may prove useful in organising performance equipment and setting up seating arrangement and setting up for DJ etc. for clubbing events, as well as planning games for smaller events. Overall, I want to raise awareness of Sri Lanka throughout UCL through organising fun events and nurture a growing togetherness amongst the many interested in SL culture and its various manifestations, and celebrate a shared heritage rooted in a rich community.
