I’m Vivin Thamaraikannan, a first-year medic, and I am very passionate about applying for the Equity officer role! I want to further the representation of minority groups by encouraging more conversations and organising awareness-raising events with the EDI Committee via regular meetings. I have experience working with a diverse range of people, from volunteering with RUMS spectrum, a charity specifically working with ASD children, working in my local GP facing my local community, and being an academic rep, in which I got the opportunity to represent the views of my peers to the medical school, giving me further insight into the workings of RUMS and our relation with the Medical school. Previously, I have held the head boy position and am comfortable expressing, conveying and representing my peers' essential values and messages. In addition, I want to further UCLMS students’ knowledge and understanding of underrepresented groups and what we can do to be more accommodating and accessible to all. One example would be promoting information and highlighting issues through the RUMS newsletter. Finally, voting for me would allow me to create an open and friendly environment to help students of all backgrounds settle into medical school and ultimately make everyone have the best experience they can at UCL.
