Hannah Khairaz

Hi everyone! My name is Hannah Khairaz, and I am a second year Biomedical Science student. If I were elected as your President, I will be committed to increasing member interaction by creating a supportive and inclusive environment. I propose to organise regular events suited to different interests, make sure information is accessible to everyone and provide a platform wherein students can connect with industries, scientists, recruiters and other students. My aim is to create an inclusive environment to ensure collaboration between committee and society members. I would also like to get member feedback through regular surveys to ensure that events organised suit different interests.

Life sciences is an exciting an upcoming field with many opportunities, and if I were elected as your Present, I would be committed to ensuring that you get the best opportunities and learning experiences from UCL Life science society.

Ken Sio

Hello, I'm Ken, a current BSc Human Sciences student. As President, I will ensure LSS is an active community, that will foster development and meaningful connection for all that the Faculty of Life Sciences encompasses.

As your LSS President, I plan to:

  • Develop a strong active community through consistent and varied events throughout the year
  • Facilitate academic and personal growth by organising talks and workshops
  • Ensure the publicity and quality of events, through effective management of the society
  • Collaborate with other societies to build further connections and organise enjoyable activities and projects
  • Maintain an inclusive and open environment for all

Inclusivity in the society is deeply important to me. As Life Sciences has a vast range of students, from undergrad to PhD, I hope for LSS to be a welcoming and expansive community. In addition, I will encourage LSS membership for all with any interest in Life Sciences, particularly those with commercially relevant goals. As President, I will work with members to ensure our society is supportive, socially and academically.

Vote Ken, and let's create a positive, active, insightful Life Science Society :)

Zahiya Amod

I enjoyed being a part of the society over the past 2 years and hope to help contribute to its success next year.

As the current treasurer for the Life Science Society, I believe I have the experience necessary to help organize and run successful events. Moreover, I am capable of managing finances and ensuring the budget is used effectively.

I am well aware of the areas that require improvement and am committed to addressing them. My main goal is to help build a sense of community among people studying or interested in Life Sciences.

To achieve this, I will focus on the following initiatives:

  • Organizing regular social events such as picnics, pub crawls, movie nights, and more, to provide opportunities for members to connect and have a good time.
  • Hosting guest speakers, seminars, and discussions on intriguing scientific topics based on student input.
  • Arranging career talks to help members in exploring potential career paths within the field of Life Sciences.
  • Planning end-of-year and winter balls to celebrate achievements and create memorable experiences.
  • Increasing member engagement by actively seeking input and suggestions for events, to cater to members interests.
  • Improve event marketing

I hope to work with the committee and members to create a society where people can build networks, connect with others, learn, and make memories.

Ioulitta Karvounis

Hello, my name is Ioulitta Karvounis, a student of Biological Sciences, and I would love the opportunity to be your President of Life Science Society this year!

I believe that this society's role is crucial within our university, bringing together students from an extensive variety of academic backgrounds. I am of the opinion that the President's role is central not only to the society's management but also to its creative expression as a union of people. With this position, I would strive to create traditions within the society, including a weekly newsletter and a conference trip abroad at the end of the year. I will also put greater focus on the Instagram page, for example posting a scientist of the week every Monday for motivation. Furthermore, I will organise more social activities, including pizza/pasta making, karaoke events, restaurant dinners and alumni nights.

Finally, I will place great emphasis on networking events, not only by organising a larger number with a diverse variety of employers, but also holding sessions on CV-improvement and networking tips. These skills are crucial for students to learn before they graduate and enter the working world, so I believe the society must cater to this need and provide as much help as possible.

I would love for you to consider me for President of Life Science Society, as I would love to make this a more prominent society within the University providing great opportunities for its members.

Thank you very much!
