Investment Society: Mentorship Executive

Over the years, I have come to realize that the most intrinsically significant instrument of success is learning to build relationships with people around you. I place a high value on successful communication; I consider the quality or characteristic of being a good communicator as the key to building relationships. I appreciate people who exude this characteristic which is why I work my hardest to ensure that I emulate the qualities of a competent communicator. I have been working with UCL in their BAME Inclusivity Panel wherein I strategize effective modus operandi in minimizing awarding gap of BAME students and help improve their interpersonal environment. Additionally, during my year-long internship as an analyst at a stock broking firm, I had the opportunity of networking with and shadowing seniors that helped cultivate my soft skills. Therefore, with the experiential learnings I have acquired, I believe that I would be best suited to give back to UCLIS as the mentorship executive, through which I can coalesce my organized and result-oriented work ethic, with strengths in interpersonal and communication skills to drive positive change in our society.

My name is Shriya, and I am a first-year economics student who is excited to apply for the Mentorship Executive role. Having been through the process of applying to Spring Weeks in the first year, I can understand how daunting and confusing the task can be.

Fortunately, I had the privilege of being mentored during my own first-year application journey. My mentor provided invaluable guidance and insights that helped me navigate the application process successfully. Thanks to his support, I secured Spring Weeks at like Nomura and Macquarie in the investment banking division. I’m grateful for the resources societies at UCL have offered me to excel in application process and would like to give back to the society by sharing what I have learnt.

Through conversations with HR representatives and participants in the program, I gained a deeper understanding of the application process. This knowledge inspired me to contribute as a mentor to future students. I believe I can offer valuable advice based on my own experiences and highlight the aspects I wish I had known when I first applied.

I have also successfully converted my spring week at Nomura into a summer internship in the investment banking division. Therefore, I believe I can also give advice on how to make the most out of a spring week and how to do prepare for conversion interviews.
