Election post
Hi, I’m Celeste and I am a second-year Human Genetics MSci student. I hope to be an Associate Officer in the Genetics Soc next year to learn more about different aspects of genetics and bring a social aspect to science – which is so important in the world of research!
I’ve always been fascinated by all things genetics, and have recently developed an interest for the computational and experimental tools we use to study and annotate genomes. Particularly, the use of bioinformatic models to understand the structure of our genomes is such a new and exciting field, allowing us to quantify ageing effects on DNA or understand the evolution of regulatory sequences.
Because genetics can be such a wide field with so many different approaches and specialisations, I think the Genetics Soc can play an important role in fostering conversations at the intersection of all these different aspects. As an Associate Officer with previous experience on the Gender and Feminism Society committee and in organising scientific conferences, I hope to support the society in creating a space where all members can share their interests, learn about new discoveries and meet like-minded people.
I hope you consider me as an Associate Officer for next year and vote for me! :)
