Jimmy Yuan

I’m Jimmy Yuan, a first-year history student who is in the CSGO branch of the society. Even though I have only been in Gaming Soc for only 1 year, I have participated in a variety of CSGO tournaments and have supported the CSGO branch. In these months, I, a first-year undergrad completely new to London, felt welcomed into the gaming society. However, I understand that this is a tough experience as I do recognise that there is a level of toxicity involved in several games (CSGO being one of them). Therefore, I would like to become the welfare officer to prevent such cases at least among Gaming Society and to give every gamer no matter new or experienced the welcoming I received. As welfare officer, I would try my best to be always available for anyone.

Wasi Iftekar

Hey! My name is Wasi and I'm running for Welfare Officer!

Some of you may already know me, as I was the Esports Officer and President in previous years, and as a result, I have a lot of experience interacting with the community here at UCL Gaming, as well as working together in the committee to support the society in its decisions and event organisation.

I'd love to become Welfare Officer for UCL Gaming because I love this society and have had a lot of time meeting and hanging out with members of this community. I'd love to be a supportive pillar for members of society who may want to reach out and seek advice regarding their own physical and mental wellbeing. I also want to be able to make sure that members of our community are comfortable reaching out in regards to giving feedback regarding the society and to seek help when they have complaints or grievances.

Gaming soc has been a wonderful part of my uni life here at UCL so far (4 years and counting!) and I'd love to welcome new members to our society and be able to involve them in our community and make sure they can have as much fun as I've had at my time in gaming society!

Alexander Tan

Hi everyone, I'm Alex. I'm a first-year Mathematics student and a devout patron of Sidequest. I'm currently playing CSGO, Rainbow Six Siege and PUBG. My all-time favourite would definitely be Metal Gear Solid V.

Since young, I have played many games with vastly different types of communities. Whether it be finding the best choices of an RPG, helping debug code for modders or deconflicting arguments between competitive teammates, each experience has taught me how to interact with the many different types of gamers.

There are challenges every gamer faces whether it be toxic teammates, unwelcoming communities or not finding a sense of belonging. These are all issues that I will aim to assist as a trained Welfare Officer.

Having had leadership roles in both the Singapore and Malaysian Societies and a genuine dedication to the well-being of others, I believe that I possess the skills and empathy required for this role. Having counselling training as well as being counselled before allows me to listen and address any issues or concerns. I also aim to better advertise all available advice and support services not just on social media but also in person.

I aim to accommodate more games into our society as well as have more collaborations with other societies of common interest like Anime, Chess and Board Games Societies. Together, I hope that we can create a society that not only furthers our interest in games but also fosters friendships, personal growth and overall well-being.
