Election post
Hi everyone! I’m Aryan, a 2nd-year Anthropology undergrad. As an active and consistent writer for FilmSoc’s Journal, as well as its Sub-Editor from 2022-23, I’ve partaken in oversight & curation of just about everything the Journal has published, from festival coverage to podcast episodes. Through covering festivals myself, including the 2022 Venice International Film Festival & 2023 Berlinale, I’ve learnt a considerable amount about planning workshops on various stages of film production and distribution, from the process of directing and composing films such as TÁR to the curation of film festivals from industry professionals such as Kristen Stewart and Johnnie To.
Moreover, such experiences have also equipped me with the ability to reach out to industry professionals in order to engage them in collaborative activities with the Journal, such as interviewing directors at the Berlinale. This, along with experiences with getting published in publications such as Little White Lies, would provide me with both the connections and the confidence required to produce workshops for FilmSoc’s members, particularly technical workshops that focus on how to maximize the budgetary limitations inherent to student films. Through collaborating with distributors like the BFI and CineAsia, I would also widen the purview of the workshops the society offers so that they are inclusive for all members of FilmSoc, such as through sessions on film criticism with publications like The Telegraph.
