Hey there. I'm Ley and I'm a first year politics and sociology student. Part of the reason I chose to come to UCL was my interest in Yugoslavian culture, something that can be explored academically at SSEES and socially at ex-yugo society. While I maybe not be from the region, I am trying to learn Serbo-Croatian and I have a lot of enthusiasm which I think could be put to good use here.

Naturally, pub events are popular and a great way to keep the society active. They provide a great way for us all to get to know each other - but why stop at that? In the next academic year, I would work to see ex-yugo society reinstated to what it once was. We can…

  • Bring back the newsletter, updating members on both societal and regional news, giving society members a chance to stay up to date and even a chance to submit their own articles.
  • Have seasonal events where traditions from the region can be promoted – especially around Christmas and Easter (Ex-Yugo society dinner?)
  • Film screenings – a chance to practise linguistic skills or just to have some fun and popcorn.
  • Collaborative events with other Balkan societies both in and outside of UCL.

...And any other suggestions :)

2022-2023 Ex-yugo society can be a great place to keep Yugoslavian culture alive, for students both from in and outside of the region - and I really hope I can contribute my all as President.
