Ollie Fielding

Hi everyone, I’m Ollie!

I’ve been a member of the Consulting Society for over 2 years now and I’m now looking to run for the Head of Competitions.

During my time at UCL, I have participated in a range of competitions that have included reaching the semi-finals of the ‘Global Microfinance Case Competition' a joint UCL Consulting x University of Melbourne event, alongside the UCL Entrepreneurs 2 day ‘Business Game’ and a Jeffries sponsored Stock Pitch Competition. Based on these experiences I have been able to develop a comprehensive understanding of what makes an enjoyable and rewarding competition.

In my role, I would:

  • Look to leverage my network in my role as the VP of Client Relations of UCL’s Investment Society to help facilitate corporate sponsorship for competitions and events

  • Look to organise collaborative competitions with other UCL societies and use my positions in UCL Investment, Real Estate and Entrepreneurs Societies to help plan joint events

  • Explore creating various themed competitions that work closely with different societies and follow current business trends such as the rise of AI. This will create valuable and relevant competitions that allow attendants to network and remain aware of current business trends

  • Provide events that cater to a range of experiences with entry-level events for those interested in learning more about the industry, through to experienced events for those who are seasoned consultants

Thanks and drop me a vote!

Prachi Saraf

I’d be thrilled to be Consulting Society’s Head of Competitions and help lead one of UCL’s most dynamic societies.

I have really valued being part of Consulting Society’s network, attending the various workshops and talks organised by the team. Further, winning the Social Impact Case Study Competition, whereby we devised an EdTech solution to solve the challenge of educational inequality in Boston, was an inspiring experience. My first-hand experience as a participant has not only illuminated the value of these events but also given me invaluable insights into the needs of participants and guests, enabling me to provide the necessary support to the key elements requiring care and attention. It complements my leadership skills, developed through my past experiences organising events; I organised talks as Secretary of my school’s History Society and invited speakers, developing communication skills. I also organised and performed in school concerts as leader of Music Society, developing time-management skills which I have also been honing through upholding society commitments at UCL, being Freshers’ Rep of Live Music Society and rehearsing for shows.

As part of the Consulting Society committee my ambition would be to organise more enriching and engaging competitions that encourage more students to explore the stimulating world of consulting.

I am eager to continue learning from my fellow students through Consulting Society and I hope to see you as Head of Competitions soon!

Kyle Tan

Hi everyone! I am Kyle Tan and I’m running for Head of Competitions for UCLCS. My experiences in consulting case competitions have made me greatly appreciate the opportunities that competing provide. Having been top 2 for 4 case competitions in the past year, I hope to take my experience to develop more opportunities for members to learn through experience.  To build our system of competitions I hope to draw on my experiences learning from consultants at Marsh Advisory and soon my insight program with BCG.

Beyond my experience in consulting, I hope to draw upon a wide range of experiences in this role. Having led numerous charity projects from my home country of Singapore, raising over £60,000 pounds for numerous charity organizations, I hope to use the skills developed in event organization to build opportunities for all members. Lastly, with my experience as an events executive at UCL impact investment society, I facilitated events with numerous industry partners and hope to take these skills with me in this role.

As head of competitions, I hope to:

  • Develop a greater number of consulting competitions aimed at a range of specific industries, giving greater exposure to members.
  • Establish a greater system of workshops to work collaboratively with competitions to enable members to both build their skills and test them.
  • Develop collaborations with other societies on competitions to cover a greater range of issues and develop unique networking opportunities.
ivan lu

During my time at UCL, I participated in the DECA 2022 case competition and was in the top-performing team in the Corporate Finance category. I have gained insight into the valuation of strategies and made a reasonable recommendation. I have also honed my skills in PowerPoint, using Python to analyze data through various class projects and self-directed learning. For instance, I am currently working on a project to summarize the financial statements of different firms using Python. Moreover, I have achieved gold and distinction in UKMT and American Maths Competition. My academic achievements, combined with my drive for continuous learning, make me confident in my ability to excel in this position.

Apart from my academic background, I have developed strong analytical and problem-solving skills through my experience in AXA Insurance in Singapore. Here, I collaborated with a team to design a suitable insurance plan for a certain client by considering their needs, income level, etc. I also attended 6-day virtual courses about how to analyze stocks by analyzing a firm using SWOT and Five Forces and looking at its financial statement during Covid.  And as a house captain in my previous school, I help the teacher to organize different events, for example, I organized the Christmas ball for the whole international department. These experiences have enabled me to develop strong teamwork and communication skills, which I believe will be invaluable for this position.
