Sharaf Hossain

Hello, I am Sharaf and I am a 2nd year ChemEng student.

I have been a member of the committee for the last 2 years and the increased responsibilities of the treasurer role is a natural progression for me. I want to make a difference and add value to the society so the funding is provided for the most enjoyable events, socials and talks for BSOC members.

Having previously been a first-year representative and the Charity & Outreach Officer, the Bangla Society have been a pivotal part of my university life. I helped raise over £2000 for Medina Square and fundraised for Maa Month. I was part of the BSOC committee that was named the Charity Fundraising Society of the Year in 2021 by the UCL SU. Given the realities back in Bangladesh, I am eager to continue the society’s charitable traditions.

I am confident I have the analytical and financial knowledge for the treasurer role. Last summer, I interned at an Asset Management firm, where I helped the firm close a £300k deal for an Afghan refugee project together with my team. Alongside my numerical skills, this experience highlights my planning and strategy skills, as I had to liaise with clients regarding assets. I have full confidence that I will apply these interpersonal and project management skills productively as treasurer when I manage the daily finances of the society.

I hope to continue with being part of the committee next year and provide BSOC members a society they deserve for their cultural and social needs.
