Ali Chowdhry

I am standing for President of the Sports Business Society because I want to step up from being an active member to helping lead a society that is engaging, well organised and valuable. This year, I have seen the value of hearing directly from people in the sports industry and understanding the decisions that shape sport beyond the pitch. I would approach the role with energy, preparation and professionalism.

My interest in sports business comes from wanting to understand how sport is organised, commercialised and led. Sport has been a major part of my life - I captained cricket teams and represented Bedfordshire at county level - but being part of this society has strengthened my interest in the business behind it. I want to help members explore that side of sport in a way that feels accessible and practical.

The President role appeals to me because it is not just about arranging events; it is about setting the tone. Hosting a speaker event means preparing properly, asking thoughtful questions, listening carefully and making the audience feel part of the conversation. Through tutoring, UCL ambassador work, and museum volunteering, I have developed the confidence to engage different people.

If elected, I would support strong speaker events while encouraging interactive formats, including venue trips, workshops and socials. My goal would be to contribute to a society where members learn about the industry, meet people with similar interests and feel part of a genuine community.
