Zahra Hussein

Hey everyone! I’m Zahra, and I’m running for RUMS Equity Officer; a role that I genuinely believe can make a real difference to student life here. 

As Equity Officer, I’d be a committed and approachable link between students and networks like EDI and Spectrum as well as religious and cultural societies, making sure all voices are heard and RUMS events are well-supported. I’d love to get involved with Fresher’s Fortnight, helping the incoming cohort feel welcome from day one, and I’m excited by the scope this role offers to make inclusion something students actually feel and not just something that exists on paper. As a school prefect, I led events with equity and accessibility at their core, and through volunteering, I’ve understood how meaningful it is to show up for your community. I’ve also taken the initiative to organise and run my own events, so I know what it takes to make something inclusive from the ground up. 

To me, equity is all about making connections and I genuinely love meeting people from different cultures and backgrounds, whether that’s through attending cultural society events or simply being curious about other people’s experiences and perspectives.

Having this role would mean a lot to me, and I’d work hard to make sure every student feels included. I’d be honoured to have your vote!
