Shrey Bijlani

Hi there! I’m Shrey – you may know me as one of this year’s Band Managers. Running band sessions and organising events this year has shown me how much of the society’s character comes from its community, and I want to help that community grow and thrive as Vice President.

Here’s a bit about me and my musical background:

  • Trained in tabla for over a decade, with two diplomas and stage performances
  • Started teaching myself the harmonium and guitar, experimenting with a range of Bollywood tracks and qawwali
  • Enjoy all types of Indian music, from Jagjit Singh to Ustad Zakir Hussain
  • Sing along to Hindi songs in my spare time
  • Enjoy working with people from diverse musical backgrounds and learning from my peers

Here’s what we accomplished this year:

  • Founded Indian Music Society and became affiliated
  • Built a strong network with classically trained musicians across UCL
  • Performed at a ticketed drama production at Bloomsbury Theatre
  • Hosted two open mic nights at Print Room Café
  • Ran band sessions across a range of Indian music styles

Here’s what I’ll do if elected:

  • Work closely with the President and Treasurer on decisions shaping the society’s direction
  • Work with the committee to continue delivering high-quality sessions and fun socials
  • Organise group outings to Indian music concerts and cultural events around London
  • Plan more events with other cultural societies across UCL

Vote for me and let’s continue to make Indian Music Society into a home for anyone who loves Indian music!
