Charlie Street

hi !!!

I'm charlie, i've been going to genfem religiously for two years since my first week at uni, and genuinely can't imagine a monday without oversharing in the name of feminism.

I've gained so much and so many excellent friends through genfem, i love meeting people who are intense about the same things i am. I'd love to be able to give back to how the society and meetings are ran, and keep attending sessions that run way over the time the room has been booked for and then continuing the conversation in the pub afterwards (soft launching the pubification of genfem ????).

Genfem is so special to me, building a family of people who love to discuss and interrogate social issues as a community is one of the best gifts i've unlocked at university, and it's what i think is the most effective way to escape how daunting these issues can feel.

As activism and fundraising officer, i'd help to increase genfem attendance to widen our community, collaborate with societies within and beyond UCL, and make connections with guest speakers/organisations to continue having important discussions on a personal + social level.

I want to help make genfem something that is inherently welcoming to everyone, a place for people to feel safe and supported, somewhere where heavy topics feel less so, and where other peoples experiences can help yours. I think feminism is best practiced when it's accessible, personal, and shared - my aim in the committee is to help the society continue to reflect this.
