I’m standing for Treasurer because I’m genuinely interested in talking and writing about finance, economics, and current affairs, and I’d love the chance to be more involved in a society centred around those interests.

A lot of my free time is already spent following economic news, markets, political developments, and financial trends, because I find it fascinating how much they shape the world around us. I want to keep developing that knowledge further, but also be part of a community of people who are equally curious and engaged.

Although I haven’t been involved in the Financial Journalism Society much before, I actually think that gives me a useful perspective. I know what it feels like to join something new, and will do my best to help integrate all society members

As Treasurer, I’d be responsible, organised, and committed to making sure the society’s finances are managed properly so it can continue running great events and opportunities for members. More than that though, I’d want to contribute to the society’s growth and help build an active community around shared interests in finance, economics, and journalism.

I’m enthusiastic, reliable, and keen to get involved properly - I’d really value the opportunity to contribute to the society and learn from the people in it as well.

I am applying for Treasurer because I have a strong interest in finance and practical experience managing and analysing financial data, and I am keen to apply these skills within a student-led organisation.

Through my year placement as a Business Support Manager, I have worked on financial reporting, cost analysis, and reviewing balance sheets and P&L statements, which has given me a solid understanding of budgeting and financial decision-making in a real-world context. In addition, my recent experience at Fidelity International has strengthened my interest in financial markets and improved my commercial awareness.

Beyond technical skills, I am organised and detail-oriented. I also have experience organising events within UCL societies, so I understand the importance of budgeting effectively to support engaging and well-run activities.

I would like to contribute to the Financial Journalism Society by ensuring transparent financial management, helping allocate resources efficiently, and supporting the society’s growth through well-planned budgeting.

Becca Au

Hi! My name is Becca and I'm running for Treasurer because I want to make the most of our budget to create more opportunities and events for you guys!

As a maths student, I'm comfortable working with data, numbers, and formulas. I'm an organised person and I plan my day-to-day life using Excel, I'll bring that same structure to documenting our cash balance and managing finances transparently. My passion for finance and a keen eye for accuracy means you can trust that the numbers will always add up and all expenditures will be justified.

I've gained experience through spring internships at HSBC and Citibank (something that FJS has helped me prepare for and I would love to give back). I can offer the society financial management and practical insight into securing internships in finance as someone from a non-finance degree.

My agenda as Treasurer:

  • Ensure cash flow is managed accurately, transparently and up to date
  • Optimise expenditure for events and collaborate with members to plan activities that you want!
  • Prepare budgets for competitions to incentivise both new and existing members to engage actively with the society

Thank you for your time and consideration
