Hey everyone, I'm Iris and I am excited to be running as your next Vice President for Engineering Society!
As engineering students, we spend a lot of our time solving problems, whether that's in lectures, the lab or at 3am wondering why our code STILL isn't working. I want to bring that same problem-solving mindset to the society, making it more engaging, more useful, and more welcoming for everyone.
My key aims as Vice President:
- More industry and networking opportunities: Introducing more industry-focused events with the big engineering companies. This could include companies such as AstraZeneca, Tesla, Arup, BAE Systems, NVIDIA, and other employers.
- More fun socials: Organising more socials such as: Build a bridge challenge, Engineers go Rock Climbing, Escape rooms, CV and coffee night etc.
- Better career support: Helping to organise CV-building sessions and interview preparations, where possible I’d love to involve alumni or older students who have gone through the process to give practical and honest advice.
Overall, I want the Engineering Society to be useful, welcoming, and actually enjoyable - not just another group chat you forgot you joined in first year.
As a third-year Civil Engineering student and the current President of Civil Engineering Society, I bring a proven track record of leadership and the experience needed to be your Vice President. Having also served as Head of Marketing for Engineering Society this year, I’ve gained a unique dual perspective on both departmental needs and the central operations of our community. I’m not just here for the title; I have the tactical experience to navigate Union bureaucracy, secure sponsorships, and bridge the gap between different disciplines to ensure our socials and career events are the best on campus. I’m ready to put my experience to work to support the President and deliver a more cohesive, high-impact year for every engineer at UCL.
