If elected as General Secretary, I want to help bring more energy, communication, and connection into the iMS Society. Throughout my first year, I’ve felt that many students are either unaware of the society or don’t feel involved in it, which is a shame because it has so much potential to bring our year together outside of lectures. As an iMS student myself, I know how easy it is to stay within your own established group, especially when some module lectures are split across different courses. I think the society should play a bigger role in helping students meet people across the sister courses and create a stronger sense of community. One of my main aims would be to help organise and promote more social events so students have more opportunities to make friendships and connections outside of academics. As General Secretary, I would work to improve communication within the society by making sure students are properly informed about upcoming events and opportunities through clear and consistent messaging. I would also support the committee by coordinating meetings, organising agendas, and helping ensure ideas are turned into well-planned events. Through my previous experience as an Accountant Assistant, I have developed confidence in handling official communications, managing emails professionally, and coordinating responsibilities between different people. Overall, I want to help create a society that feels more welcoming for all iMS students.
I am running for General Secretary because I want to help build a society that is organised, supportive, and valuable to its members. I hope to help strengthen its academic community while ensuring it runs efficiently and communicates effectively with students interested in medicine, clinical sciences, and biomedical research.
The role is central to keeping a society connected and well coordinated. If elected, I will ensure committee meetings are productive, communication is consistent, and members are kept informed about events and opportunities throughout the year. I also hope to strengthen collaboration within the committee and maintain a professional relationship with Students’ Union UCL.
My experience has prepared me well for this role. Through writing for university publications such as Silk v Brief, I have developed strong written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally. Alongside this, my leadership roles in societies and my tutoring roles have provided experience liaising with students, staff, and committees while organising events and activities.
I also want to make the Society more accessible and welcoming through workshops, networking, wellbeing initiatives, and socials so members feel supported and involved throughout their degree.
I would bring commitment and consistency to the role of General Secretary, while working to help the Society grow into a more connected and active community.
hi everyone, i'm jacy, a first-year Nutrition and Medical Sciences student, and i'd love to be your General Secretary next year, the one who keeps everyone in the loop, the emails answered before they fossilise, and the admin painless.
i've been doing this long before uni. in secondary school, i was a class prefect, acting as the friendly bridge between students and teachers. sharing information, sorting out small issues before they became big ones, and making sure everyone felt heard. it taught me how to communicate clearly, stay calm under pressure, and keep things moving without overcomplication. later, leading to run a student-led social enterprise and mentoring younger students strengthened those skills even more. i became the person who keeps track of details, remembers deadlines, and makes sure the team stays on the same page without feeling over-monitored.
as General Secretary, i'll bring that same energy: warm, clear communication, tidy minutes, and agendas that actually help rather than confuse. i'll keep information flowing, handle Student Union contact so the rest of the committee doesn't have to decode their emails, and make sure everyone always knows what's going on.
thank you so much for reading and i'd really appreciate your support.
