Hi! I’m Clarisse, a Y1 Nutrition and Medical Sciences student :) I’m applying for DMS Careers Officer as I know how difficult it can be to get a clear understanding of healthcare careers beyond what is written online. By observing consultations in a dental clinic and working as Events Manager at an international healthcare symposium, I noticed what is most valuable isn’t just hearing about careers, but getting to ask questions directly and appreciate what day-to-day work looks like. As a senior leader of my school’s Environmental Council, I collaborated with external bodies like the Hong Kong Shark Foundation, which has reached 60,000+ students. I also led a team of 10 to organise outreach campaigns, where I identified opportunities and turned ideas into initiatives that people enjoy engaging with.

My focus would thus be on making career support less intimidating and more useful. From experience, a common barrier is not knowing what to ask or how to approach conversations. I would organise enrichment events across career areas, from larger talks to smaller group sessions with guiding questions to make discussions feel natural instead of putting students on the spot. I would also build ongoing relations with industry professionals and alumni, promote external events like conferences or visits, and create a regularly updated resource with practical takeaways to make support easily accessible. I hope to dispel the fear around careers and make sure students feel supported :]
