I am applying for Trips and Communications Officer as a Roman Catholic who wants to help CathSoc feel active and easy to join. For many students, a trip or a message online may be their first real contact with the society. I would want that first contact to feel warm rather than formal.

This role fits my experience well. As Communications Lead for Anthroshow 2026, I have helped promote student events and write updates for a student audience. I am also a presenter for PeerScroller, which has made me more confident speaking to people in a direct and engaging way. Through my work with Cheese Grater Magazine, I have supported publicity for a live student production, which taught me how much timing and tone affect whether people engage.

My Catholic experience is important here. At St Peter and the Winchester Martyrs, I have helped with Centenary celebrations and produced Mass sheets for special services. That work has made me more aware of how communication can serve a parish community, rather than simply advertise an event.

I would approach trips carefully. My experience on the Lourdes Pilgrimage taught me how much behind-the-scenes planning goes into creating a good group experience. It also showed me the value of patience when working with different people.

As the Trips and Communications Officer, I would help members understand what is happening and feel invited to be part of it. I would bring a friendly tone and respect for the role CathSoc can play in student life.
