Since starting medical school, I have developed a strong interest in the social determinants of health and health inequalities. I believe that this is an essential part of the curriculum that deserves greater emphasis and this society gives an opportunity to explore and discuss these topics. I have learnt so much through my involvement in this society and have had the opportunity to apply my learning in real-world settings through the volunteering projects.

The volunteering projects are an essential part of this society and enable us to learn about and support different organisations and build relationships with clients and staff. I am applying for the role of Partnerships Officer as I am passionate about maintaining and building new relationships with organisations to enable us to organise impactful volunteering projects that can benefit both the volunteers as well as the organisation. To do this, I can discuss potential roles for volunteers while leaving opportunities for them to tailor their role to their interests as well as the duration of the project. My experience of being the finance officer of the transplant surgery society will help me in the planning and communication skills required for the role. I also hope that enhancing our collaboration with organisations and having clear roles for volunteers will encourage more people to join the society and engage in the projects.
